Red Rocks of Sedona – Photo Diary
A few years ago, my husband and I went on to a wedding in Phoenix and I decided to add on a few more days to see the famous Red Rocks of Sedona.
To be honest, I hadn’t heard much about this place before our trip to Phoenix. I am from Germany and for me Arizona means Grand Canyon. It is such a grandiose sight, what else could there be worthwhile visiting? But when I saw some picture that my friends showed me and heard their stories about how amazing Sedona is, I just had to check it out. So instead of driving back with my husband after the wedding, I dropped him off at the airport and went on a little adventure to explore the Red Rocks of Sedona and to see for myself if there is more to Arizona than the Grand Canyon.
And boy, was I in for a surprise! But before I go on and on, just take a look at the pictures and see for yourself how amazing this place is.

Sedona is not only famous for its Red Rocks though. It is a known for a high density of Energy Vortexes – places where the Earth’s energy is supposed to be especially strong and powerful. There are 4 main Vortex sites in Sedona, but the positive energy is supposedly felt throughout the whole area. You can read more about them here. While I am not sure if all of the Energy Vortex stuff is true, I did feel connected to the beautiful landscape and nature of this place and after just spending a few hours in this place, I felt refreshed and invigorated.
Little Antique shops where you can buy anything from Indian pottery to rusty gas pumps from the previous century are as typical for Sedona as they are for any small town in the Wild West. I especially love the garlands of spicy hot chili peppers and little bags of ground spices that are sold everywhere. They are not only beautiful souvenirs, but you can actually use them when you get home and they will remind you of your time in Sedona, each time you make a nice and spicy bowl of SouthWestern style Chili.
Have you seen the Red Rocks of Sedona? While they are often overlooked as a travel destination in the State of Arizona, they are most definitely worth a visit. It is less touristy than the Grand Canyon or some of the other National Parks like Zion and has a bit of a hippy vibe, due to the Sedona Energy Vortexes, which I really enjoyed. I loved it very much and it was the perfect place for me to recharge, take some time off and enjoy an amazing landscape.

Great photo diary.. a nice virtual tour. We did a girls trip there a couple of years ago and it was such a surreal place. Like you were in a different planet.

Your photograph is striking! This reminded me a lot of the Algarve in Portugal which was the only place where I’ve seen such striking red rocks / cliffs – especially when the sun sets…it’s mesmerizing!!

I am going to the USA this year and the redrocks is one of my dream destinations. Super hopeful I can get there.

Yes, the antique shops in Sedona are awesome. You can find all kinds of treasures in those stores to keep the memory of your visit alive, even after you return home.
