Exploring Beijing, Acrobatic Show – My China Experience 17

by in My Experience in China

Today, I had to go back to work, so Nir went off on his own to see the Great Wall at Badaling.  I would have loved to go with him, even though I did not like Badaling very much the first time, so I was getting a little bit frustrated at work because they did not give me anything to do the whole day.  I was just sitting there, trying to occupy myself so the time would pass, while I could have climbed one of the 7 wonders of the world.  But what can you do, I am not here for pleasure I am here to work…  At 5.30 PM, I took a cab to the Chaoyang Theater and waited for Nir, so we could buy our tickets for the show.  He showed up a couple of minutes after me and we bought the tickets and then went for a snack at Pizza Hut.

The show started at 7.15 PM and it was one of the best and most amazing shows I have seen so far.  They showed everything, from human pyramids to jugglers, contortionists, acrobats jumping through hoops and fascinating bike acrobatics.  There was not a minute where you could hold yourself back from making sounds like ohhh, ahhh, wow, did you see that, amazing, holy shit etc.  One part was just as amazing as the next one.  It was really great and I can only recommend it to everybody who visits Beijing.

Acrobatic Show BeijingAfter the show, we took a cab to a nice restaurant, which Nir found in his LP.  We had the best cab driver ever.  He started singing the minute we got into the cab and when he heard that I am German, he started to hum the melody of a German song.  Then he went from “Nehmt Abschied Brüder” directly to Christmas songs.  Nir tried to teach him a Hanukkah song, but that did not work out so well.  In the end, he sang us some Chinese opera songs.  We really had a good time and did not care too much that the guy was obviously driving in circles to get up to the settled fare of 20 RMB.  We had a fabulous dinner at the restaurant and then we headed to Sanlitun, the bar area close to my apartment.  Even though Sanlitun is full of cheesy Chinese bars, we managed to find a really nice and quiet bar that played nice and classy blues and even offered hookahs (nagirla, shisha, Wasserpfeife, whatever you would like to call it).  It was really a nice evening and we had a great time.  Back home, Nir packed his bag for the next day and got everything ready.  What a nice day, I hope Nir enjoyed it as much as I did!
